About Us
Who?
Our focus is Title 1 schools in Colbert and Lauderdale Counties. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies on volunteers and donations. The schools selected for the 2023-2024 school year are Kindergarten and Special Needs K-4 at Harlan Elementary in Florence, Threadgill Primary in Sheffield, Kindergarten at Weeden Elementary in Florence, and the Special Needs K-5th grade classes at G.W. Trenholm, R.E. Thompson, and L.E. Wilson.
Other schools that have requested services will be placed on a waiting list for the upcoming year.
Summer birthdays are celebrated during the second half of the school year. It is important to us that each child knows their day is special and unique just like they are!
Why?
Research has shown that children from low income families can struggle academically and socially. We believe when we celebrate each of these students it helps build self esteem and confidence along with teaching them the importance of celebrating others.
How?
"The Birthday Fairy" exists to create magical birthday moments for our local kindergarten and special needs (K through 5th grade) students in qualifying Title 1 schools. On the week of a child's birthday, a package of cupcakes, party decorations, handmade personalized chair cover and backpack filled with books, crayons and coloring books will be delivered to the eligible schools. Teachers set up the child's custom-made surprise from "The Birthday Fairy"! We want each child to know that they are loved on their special day!
